A melon farmer was exasperated. His crop was steadily missing, one or two each night. He couldn't afford a night watch, although he had a very good idea about who stole his melons.
To discourage the thief, he put up a sign saying " To Thief: Beware! I had injected poison to one of the melon!"
He counted his remaining melons; there are twenty-four of them. Then he went home.
The next morning, he counted his melon. All twenty-four is still there. The farmer was happy. He thought," So, this is the right trick to outsmart that thief. Stupid thief!"
Then he saw his sign was lying on the ground. Probably the wind blew it down, he thought. He picked it up and found that the thief had scrawled something on the bottom. It read, "To Farmer: Beware, now there's two of them."
